Kurt Hummel is currently an alumni of New Directions. He was the first openly homosexual student of William McKinley High School and active member of New Directions since Pilot; also a part of the Cheerios, Dalton Academy Warblers, and Mckinley Titans. He now lives with Rachel Berry in New York as an intern at Vogue.com and plans to reapply at NYADA during the next semester.
As one of the only open gays in McKinley, Kurt was often bullied. The fact that he was in New Directions increased this. This stopped when Kurt transferred to Dalton Academy, because that school has a zero tolerance policy when it comes to bullying. The only people that did anything about Kurt getting bullied were Principal Sylvester (at the time) and the Glee Members who were on the football team (Sam and Mike). They worked against Dave Karofsky, through both violence and expelling him from the school. However, Karovsky was brought back by the school board, which meant Kurt wasn't safe at McKinley. Because of this, he transferred to Dalton Academy, where he had spied earlier.
After transferring to Dalton, Kurt becomes one of the Dalton Academy Warblers. He quickly falls in love with Blaine Anderson, but the feeling isn't mutual. They do however become good friends. During Original Songs, while Kurt is singing Blackbird, Blaine realizes that he does indeed love Kurt.
In Pilot (E1), Glee's first episode, Kurt Hummel is presented very hastily as he is thrown into a dumpster by William McKinley High School's bully, Noah Puckerman. Before he does, however, Finn Hudson makes sure to remove his expensive jacket, an act of kindness despite the situation.
Kurt Hummel is then not seen again until his audition for New Directions, his version of Mr. Cellophane. For the remainder of the show Kurt provides back up vocals and feedback when in the choir room or audotorium with New Directions.
As of the episode Born This Way, Kurt returns to McKinley, leaving his boyfriend, Blaine, back at Dalton Academy. Before Blaine and the Warblers leave, they sing Somewhere Only We Know to Kurt, which causes him to cry. Blaine does however tell Kurt that they will not separate, and Kurt tells him that he will never leave him, no matter what.
Kurt is not seen very much in Rumours. However, it is rumored during this episode that Kurt is cheating on Blaine with Sam Evans. All that is happening is Kurt is lending his clothes to Sam because Sam's father lost his job, so they were forced to move into a motel.
Possibly Kurt's best friend, Finn is also Kurt's stepbrother. Despite the fact that Kurt used to have a crush on Finn, they now live together and love each other in a brotherly manner.
Kurt's role model and boyfriend. Blaine is a student at Dalton Academy, where Kurt now attends. The two of them move back to William McKinley High School and both join New Directions as of Season Three, Born This Way. As of The Break-Up, Blaine and Kurt are left on uncertain terms when Blaine cheats on Kurt when he's away in New York.
